The course below was crafted using Gagne nine events of instruction to engage learners throughout the entire course
Grab Learner's Attention – I crafted a succinct, high-energy video to introduce the significance of an effective onboarding experience. This brief introduction serves to pique the learners' curiosity and engage them right from the start.
Explain the Objective(s) – I presented the objectives in a bullet point list to prepare the learner for what they will experience in the eLearning course.
Stimulate Recall of Prior Learning – I posed an open-ended rhetorical question about the learners' past experiences with their onboarding process. Did they feel prepared? This approach allows the learner to draw connections as they progress through the module.
Present the Content –I varied the way I presented content throughout this module to keep the learner engaged, using interactivity, bullet points, and storytelling.
Elicit Performance (Practice) – I gave the learner quick scenario questions to formulate a practice, defining what a good onboarding experience for an employee should contain. In these scenarios, the learner had to figure out what portion of the onboarding process was missing
Provide Feedback – I reiterated why the scenario was essential to understand why a proper onboarding process is necessary.
Assess Performance – I used a quiz to reinforce the content. It wasn't rigorous, but it was enough to ensure that the content stuck with the learner.
Enhance Retention and Transfer – As the training may not be an "at the need" moment, I left the learner with a checklist to help them onboard their future employees effectively.
